My first experience in the interpreting booth

In action in the booth!

I recently had the pleasure of working as an interpreter at ThinkUpCulture!, a two day event on the Patronage of Cultural and Creative Industries held in Palma de Mallorca. The event took place on the 4th, 5th and 6th of February at the Chamber of Commerce in Palma.

It was my first time in a booth so quite an experience! The talks were all 1 hour long and I was working alongside another interpreter who thankfully had more experience than me – I hadn’t realized how important it is when translating in a booth to have a great teammate!! We had to interpret both from Spanish into English and the other way around and even though we did have access to some materials before the event the pace was quite intense and the subject matter sometimes challenging.

All in all it was an enjoyable experience and one which I hope to be able to repeat in the future.
