the things you learn when you translate..
Every day I am more and more fascinated by the amount of things I learn in my work as a translator.
As a professional translator I often have to research subjects I know nothing about in order to get up to speed and be able to translate a text about the subject as if I had written it myself. You can make big mistakes if you don’t do some research first.
In this way I have learnt so much. I have covered subjects as diverse as psychology, agriculture, gastronomy, gambling, education, media and yachting. Each require their own particular jargon, and this is often completely different in Spanish and in English.
This in depth research, and the ability to use the correct vocabulary in every given situation and for every given text is an essential part of what you pay for when you hire a professional translator.
